- Retakes: The TMSnat may be repeated as often as you like.

Which date fits your application?
Which application semester a TMSnat result counts for, how long it is valid and how much weight it carries is set by each university in its selection statutes. According to the sources, some of these decisions are still pending. Plan your test date backwards from the application deadline of the universities you are aiming for, and ask them if anything is unclear. The application for medical studies itself is made via hochschulstart.de.
Transition from the TMS and HAM-Nat
- TMS: According to tms-info.org, the autumn round of 2026 is the last TMS in its previous form. How long an earlier TMS result is recognised is decided by each university.
- HAM-Nat: The last HAM-Nat was scheduled for 5 September 2026. According to the Auswahltestzentrale, Hamburg and Magdeburg have transition rules for the 2027/28 winter semester under which HAM-Nat results are still taken into account. From the 2028/29 winter semester, only the TMSnat counts there.
Checklist until the first date
Our recommendations, not requirements of the providers:
- Mark February 2027 in your calendar and check tms-info.org regularly from January.
- Read the selection statutes of the universities you want: What role does the TMSnat play there, and from when?
- Plan your preparation now: Until May 2027 there is enough time to practise all eight task groups several times under time pressure. You will find a plan on the page TMS preparation.
- Practise with a time limit: You can practise two task groups here for free with the planned number of questions and time: go to the TMSnat simulation.
