TMSnat knowledge of natural sciences: practise biology, chemistry, physics and maths
Knowledge of natural sciences (Naturwissenschaftliche Kenntnisse) is the largest task group in the planned TMSnat: 40 tasks in 60 minutes. Here you practise with 10 questions each from biology, chemistry, physics and maths per round, with a timer, instant scoring and worked solutions. No registration. Page status: 2 October 2026.

Knowledge of natural sciences at a glance
- Planned TMSnat: 40 tasks in 60 minutes, as the first group of the test (planning status 26.06.2026). That works out at 1.5 minutes per task.
- Previous TMS: This group did not exist there. Unlike the other groups, specialist knowledge is needed here.
- Topics: Not published for the TMSnat. The HAM-Nat topic catalogue (status July 2024) lists maths, physics, chemistry and biology.
- Format: According to the planning document, all TMSnat groups are multiple choice.
Topics according to the HAM-Nat topic catalogue
A selection from the official catalogue, summarised. The full list is in the linked PDF.
| Subject | Topics (selection) |
|---|---|
| Maths | Powers and logarithms, percentages, areas and volumes, probability, combinatorics, statistics |
| Physics | Quantities and units, mechanics, heat and gas laws, waves and optics, electricity |
| Chemistry | Atomic structure, chemical bonding, reactions and equilibria, amounts of substance and concentrations, redox, organic molecules, acids and bases, buffers |
| Biology | Cell biology, senses and nerves, metabolism, classical genetics, molecular genetics, genetic engineering, evolution |
How the practice works here
- Each round draws 40 questions, 10 each from biology, chemistry, physics and maths (pool: 80). The subject is shown above each question.
- With the time limit you have 60 minutes.
- After scoring, you see the solution to each question, with the working for calculations.
How the 40 TMSnat tasks are distributed across the subjects has not been published; the even split is our assumption. Nothing is stored and nothing is sent.
Our tips
Not requirements of the test providers, but our recommendations:
- Use the catalogue as a checklist: Go through the HAM-Nat topics and mark what you know confidently from school and what you don't.
- Close gaps deliberately: Subjects you dropped early cost the most points. Upper-secondary school textbooks are usually enough as a basis.
- Train speed: At 1.5 minutes per task there is little time to think. Formulas and units should be second nature.
- Review mistakes: Read the solution even for correct answers and note topics where you guessed.
Frequently asked questions
Which topics are tested in the TMSnat?
That has not yet been published. The planning document only gives the group's name, number of tasks and time. The HAM-Nat topic catalogue serves as a guide. We will add new information on the page TMSnat structure.
Is this the same group as in the HAM-Nat?
That has not been officially confirmed. All that is known is that the TMSnat is to combine task groups from the TMS and the HAM-Nat.
Do I need prior knowledge here?
Yes. Unlike MedNat or reading comprehension, the answers cannot be derived from a text.
Are these original tasks?
No. All questions are written by us. There is no guarantee that they match the level of the TMSnat.
