TMS MedNat: practise basic understanding of medicine and natural sciences online
In this task group, each task gives you a short description from medicine or the natural sciences, and you check which statements can be derived from it. Here you practise 20 tasks in 50 minutes, as in the planned TMSnat, with instant scoring and reasons. No registration. Page status: 2 October 2026.

MedNat at a glance
- Planned TMSnat: 20 tasks in 50 minutes (planning status 26.06.2026), as the second group before the break.
- Previous TMS: 24 tasks in 60 minutes.
- No specialist knowledge needed: According to the sample task collection, no special knowledge is required; technical terms are explained in the task text.
- Structure: Each task contains a brief description of a situation, followed by three or five statements that you check for whether they can be derived.
How the tasks are structured
Unlike reading comprehension, each task brings its own short material, often only five or six sentences. The question is what follows from it: what happens if an organ fails? Which measure counteracts the cause? Some tasks require a small calculation, for example with a half-life or a proportionality. An example from our practice:
Material: Die Stromstärke des Blutes durch ein Gefäß ist bei gleichem Druckunterschied proportional zur vierten Potenz des Gefäßradius.
Question: A vessel narrows to half its radius. To what fraction does blood flow fall?
Solution: (1/2)⁴ = 1/16.
How the practice works here
- Each round draws 20 of 40 tasks at random.
- With the time limit you have 50 minutes, i.e. 2.5 minutes per task.
- After scoring, you see the reason for each task, and for combination tasks for each statement separately.
Keep paper ready for sketches. Nothing is stored and nothing is sent.
Strategies
The official sample task collection recommends the following, summarised here in our own words:
- Structure while reading: Underline or circle the key terms and mark the verbs that describe relationships, such as „bewirken“, „fördern“, „hemmen“, „verringern“ (cause, promote, inhibit, reduce).
- Sketch complex tasks: If too many underlines would be needed, a separate sketch of the relationships helps.
- Show control processes with arrows: Write out the quantities involved and connect them with arrows showing whether they change in the same or the opposite direction.
Our addition, not a requirement of the test providers: be strict with „lässt sich ableiten“ (can be derived). A statement that is factually correct but does not follow from the material counts as not derivable.
Frequently asked questions
Is MedNat part of the TMSnat?
Yes. According to the planning status of 26.06.2026, the group is part of the TMSnat with 20 tasks in 50 minutes. The order of all groups is on the page TMSnat structure.
Do I need prior knowledge of biology or chemistry?
According to the sample task collection, no; technical terms are explained. The new TMSnat group knowledge of natural sciences, on the other hand, asks for specialist knowledge by its name.
How does MedNat differ from reading comprehension?
In reading comprehension, several tasks belong to one longer text. In MedNat, each task has its own short material.
Are these original tasks?
No. All tasks are written by us. You will find official examples in the free collection on tms-info.org.
